Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje dilahirkan pada tanggal 8 Februari 1857 di Oosterhout. Setelah tamat Hogere Burgerschool (Sekolah Menengah Lima Tahun, penerjemah) di Breda dan setelah menempuh ujian negara, ia kuliah di Universitas Leiden. Di sana ia menempuh ujian kandidat dalam mata kuliah teologi, setelah itu ia menempuh ujian dalam ilmu sastra Samiyah. Continue reading

ADAT PELANTIKAN PEMAHKOTAAN PENABALAN SULTAN ACEH DARUSALAM
Pelantikan pemahkotaan dan penabalan Sultan Alaiddin Mahmud Syah II merupakan penaubatan Sultan Aceh yang terakhir dapat dilakukan secara sempurna menurut adat. Pada tahun 1873 Belanda menyerang Kesultanan Aceh, meski dapat dipukul mundur pada percobaan pertama pada agresi militer kedua pasukan Belanda dapat merebut Istana Kesultanan Aceh Darussalam dengan cara licik yaitu menyebar bibit penyakit kolera. Puncak Ise-Ise, Gayo Lues tengah tahun 2022. Hari masih pagi, kabut mengantung di depan, di antara pepohonan di bawah dan melayang atas tepi-tepi jurang yang hijau. Disana, dalam jam-jam tenang dan sejuk setelah sang fajar naik sepenggalah, hujan rintik-rintik sudah sedari tadi menyiram pelan-pelan.
