Pekuburan “Peucut”, adalah nama sebuah tempat dimana serdadu-serdadu Belanda selama Perang Aceh-Belanda dikuburkan di Banda Aceh. (The “Peucut” cemetery, is the name of a place where Dutch soldiers during the Aceh-Dutch War were buried in Banda Aceh.)

Pekuburan “Peucut”, adalah nama sebuah tempat dimana serdadu-serdadu Belanda dikuburkan di Banda Aceh, menjadi salah satu bahan penelitian yang akan sangat berguna bagi kita untuk mempelajari keadaan Aceh pada masa penjajahan Belanda melalui catatan yang tertulis pada makam-makam tersebut.

Sebelum Belanda menggunakan kompleks tersebut sebagai pekuburan tentaranya yang tewas dalam peperangan diseluruh Aceh, kompleks tersebut telah lebih dahulu terdapat kuburan-kuburan orang-orang Aceh yang terkemuka, disana terdapat pusara putera Sultan Iskandar Muda, Meurah Pupok. Peucut berasal julukan dari Meurah Pupok yang sering disebut Pocut (Anak Kesayangan) kemudian seiring zaman berubah menjadi “Peucut”.

Pada makam-makam ini telah dikuburkan lebih dari 2.200 orang tentara Belanda yang tewas selama Perang Aceh-Belanda (1873-1933), dari serdadu biasa sampai Mayor Jenderal, dari suku-suku bangsa Indonesia, bangsa Belanda serta bangsa-bangsa lain yang menjadi serdadu Belanda. Diantara kuburan-kuburan itu masih terdapat catatan yang dapat dibaca nama, pangkat serta tahun serta tempat mereka tewas. Nama-nama mereka diukir demikian indah pada marmer yang merupakan dinding pintu gerbang kehormatan “erepoort” makam para pahlawan Belanda tersebut.

The “Peucut” cemetery, the name of the Dutch soldiers buried in Banda Aceh, is one of the research materials that will be useful for us to study the situation in Aceh during the Dutch colonial period, through written notes above the graves.

Before the Dutch used the compound as a cemetery for their troops killed in battle throughout Aceh, the complex had earlier been the tombs of prominent Acehnese, there is the tomb of Sultan Iskandar Muda’s son, Meurah Pupok. Peucut derived the nickname of Meurah Pupok is often called Pocut (Children’s Favor) then over time changed to “Peucut”.

In these graves have been buried more than 2,200 Dutch soldiers killed during the Aceh-Dutch War (1873-1933), from ordinary soldiers to Major Generals, from Indonesian tribes, Dutch and other nations, who became Dutch soldiers.
