THE UNTOLD STORY ABOUT HISTORY OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF INDONESIA IN ACEH PROVINCE

History of the Communist Party of Indonesia in Aceh

Currently, the existence of the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI) in Aceh is no longer known by the people. Even if someone hears the story is only from living witnesses who mostly choose silence and do not want to tell stories. Apparently, in Aceh, there is a book written by Thaib Adamy who was then served as First Deputy Secretary in Committee PKI Aceh in the era of 1960s. A book entitled ‘Atjeh Mendakwa’ (Aceh Lawsuit) which tells of his defense in court at the Sigli District Court on 12 September 1963. Thaib Adamy was tried for his alleged involvement in all revolutionary activities in the PKI organization. The book was written directly by Thaib Adamy who was then posted in 1964 by the PKI Aceh Committee.

Some of the crowd who attended Thaib Adamy’s trial from outside the Sigli District Court building in 1963.

The accusations that made Thaib Adamy punished the law until criminalized due to his political speech that invites to fight for revolution in Indonesia. Thaib Adamy mentions the enemy of the poor is the ongoing system of capitalism in the State of Indonesia and also in the province of Aceh at that time.

It was Thaib Adamy who was the First Deputy Secretary of the PKI Aceh Committee. He was also a member of the Aceh Provincial People’s Legislative Assembly from the PKI faction, giving a political oration at the PKI general meeting on March 3, 1963, in Sigli. It was on this basis that the Sigli District Court accused Thaib Adamy of provocation and propaganda that led to riots.

Thaib Adamy who is the First Deputy Secretary of the PKI Aceh Committee. He is also a member of the House of Representatives (DPRGR) of Aceh Province from the fraction of the Indonesian Communist Party.

In his speech, the most familiar and widely quoted utterances by the media and other writers are: “If the PRRI leaders, Permesta and DI/TII who are already violating the Indonesian government with violence, destroying buildings and so on even resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of people’s lives are not punished, is it fair that I am blamed and punished for revolutionary activities, and the revolution reinforced the Manipol by wiping out capitalist counter-revolution, bureaucrats, and treachery of state property?” said he who was greeted with applause from the masses who attended the trial.

On September 16, 1963, the Sigli District Court, led by Chudari judge, sentenced him to two years in prison on Thaib Adamy who was still representing the PKI at the Aceh Provincial Parliament at that time.

This book is presented to provide accurate historical data, linked to the history of the PKI in Aceh where the entire library in Aceh is not found at all according to the author’s search.

Introduction to the Book ATJEH MENDAKWA (Aceh Lawsuit) by Muhammad Samikidin First Secretary of the PKI Aceh Committee / Member of Central Committee of the Communist Party of Indonesia)

Buku Atjeh Mendakwa

The Book ATJEH MENDAKWA (Aceh Lawsuit) by Thaib Adamy

There has never been a political case in Aceh that has received so much attention from the masses. Since the news of the arrest of Comrade Thaib Adamy was announced to the masses through the Statement of the PKI Aceh Committee of April 5, 1963 entitled: Go Ahead, with the Spirit of Vivere peri coloso extend all Challenges and the following statements that expose the arrest, until the case was heard by the Sigli District Court for 6 sessions, where each session was between 5,000 and 10,000 people, especially when Comrade Thaib Adamy read his five-and-a-half hour advocate (not allowed to drink) followed by the mass of the People. The publication of this brochure is in line with the demands of the period and furthermore greatly contributes to the development of the Party and the revolutionary movement in the Aceh region and further enhances the understanding of the People why the hypocrites and bureaucratic capitalists should be destroyed.

History of the Communist Party of Indonesia in Aceh

At the beginning of the independence of the Republic of Indonesia, PKI and Ulama (PUSA) had a common enemy: the uleebalangs (old nobles), though not all generalized. There are also uleebalangs who join in PUSA. It’s like a Samadikin speech that does not disguise the uleebalangs as their enemy. However, in general, they have a common interest: the overthrow of uleebalang power, The Cumbok War. History then records that momentum is the turning point for social status change in Aceh.

The relationship based on mutual interests then cracked when some of the ulama took up arms against the Indonesian government. At this stage, the PKI actually supported the army and the Indonesian government. Instead, PUSA is in a position to face the Indonesian army.

When Abu Beureueh and his friends decided to descend the mountain in 1962, three years before the eruption of the generals later called the G30S PKI, the relationship between the army and ulama began again. Military Commander in Aceh at that time was Colonel Mohammad Jasin who ordered the arrest of Thaib Adamy, began to build harmonious relations with PUSA leadership Abu Beureueh.

The destruction of the Communist Party in Aceh

The catastrophe for the PKI took place after the G30S. The clerics and the army agreed to muzzle the PKI. Ali Hasjmy in a book written, two months after the G30S, the scholars held a deliberation entitled Ulama Consultative Assembly as the Region of Aceh. The deliberation that took place in Banda Aceh was led by the great clerics Teungku Abdullah Ujong Rimba. The meeting gave birth to a fatwa forbidding communist teachings in Aceh. Mentioned: “The mobilizers, pioneers, and executors of G30S are the infidel evil that must be eradicated.”

The clerical council was not born by itself. Is Isaac Juarsa (the successor of Mohammad Jasin), Pangdam Iskandar Muda as War Ruler for Aceh Region who asked for an Islamic legal opinion on G30S.

The clerical council was not born by itself. Is Isaac Juarsa (the successor of Mohammad Jasin), as War Ruler for the Aceh Region who asked for an Islamic legal opinion on G30S. As a result, on December 17-18, 1965, 56 religious scholars gathered together in Aceh. It was the clerics who issued their legal appeal to dissolve the PKI and issue a martyr’s fatwa for those killed in the G30S crackdown. Got the legitimacy of ulama, the next day, on 19 December 1965, Commander of Kodam I Iskandarmuda announced the dissolution of the PKI in Aceh.

What happened next, a massacre that was too bitter to be remembered. If during the Cumbok War (the Civil War in Aceh against the old nobles in 1946) the PKI had the same interests as the clerics, in 1965 the history of recording the clerics and the army alienated the PKI. Thousands of lives flew back. Without the trial, without proof. And the PKI was destroyed to the roots of Aceh.

The fate of the Communist Party in Aceh after the G30S PKI

Since 5 October 1965 in Banda Aceh and other cities in Aceh there have been demonstrations from the Indonesian Nationalist Party (Haji Syamaun), students, mass organizations. By saying Allahu Akbar, they demanded the dissolution of the PKI. The PKI office was ransacked. The night was the kidnapping and murder of members and onderbouw PKI and Baperki.

On December 16, 1965, the Aceh Ulama Council held a fatwa of law communism, kafir, and haram (as mentioned above). By Pangdam I / Iskandar Muda as Pepelrada for Kodim 0101 / Territorial Military Command (Banda Aceh city and Aceh Besar regency at that time) as Kosekhan was ordered to form a Screening Team to research and process PKI members and mass organizations. The Screening team can determine whether or not they are involved in G 30 S. With this team, illegal actions by youth or CSOs can be avoided to make decisions on suspected PKI members and CBOs.

The Team Leader of Kosekhan 0101 was held by the Dandim (District Military Command), vice Captain Drs. M. Syah Asyik, members of Lieutenant T.M. Jalil, Lieutenant M. Daud Musa (CPM), Peltu Syamsuddin (CPM), Suherman, A. Mukti, Syamsuddin (from the Police), Sudarman from the State Prosecutor and Said Abubakar from the Political and Security Bureau. His office was in the building of Baperki (now Junior High School in Peunayong Banda Aceh), then moved to the Kodim 0101 office in Sultan Mahmudsyah street. In addition, members of the PKI and their mass organizations from Sabang Municipality were also taken to Banda Aceh to be selected or not involved.

Secretary and deputy secretary of the Central Committee of the PKI Aceh, Muhammad Samidikin and Thaib Adamy, as well as some members of the PKI and its mass organizations as well as those considered by the PKI, have been killed. Thaib Adamy when he was beheaded he asked to be greeted to Bung Karno and shouted Long Life Bung Karno. Chairman of Gerwani (PKI Feminist Organization), Chairman of Pemuda Rakyat (PKI Youth Organization), member of CGMI (PKI Student Organization), chairman of Baperki (Organization of Chinese descent in Indonesia, onderbow PKI) and others have been executed by youth mass. The special bureau of Nyak Amat is brought to justice. The family (wife and children of M. Samidikin) by Kosekhan (Team Screening) escorted by train was escorted safely to his village in Tanjungpura, North Sumatra. There were 1 children who were killed by the masses, like a 14-year-old son of Thaib Adamy. Likewise, Kasan Siregar, the former chairman of the PKI also died for execution. Whereas Kasan Siregar as keuchik (Village Head) Kampung Baru, Banda Aceh is a frequent prayer to the Baiturrahman Mosque of Banda Aceh. There were also PKI activists who fled outside Aceh such as Cut Husin, K. Ampio, and Lim Ka Kee.

Cleansing of PKI elements until 1966 continues to be done, but it turns out that in some agencies and services as well as the security forces themselves allegedly there are still elements of the PKI and its sympathizers. Seeing this the student activists of Syiah Kuala University again tried to hold a buzz. This time they did not fly through the leaflet, but they tried through an illegal radio transmitter. Some youths from the Indonesian Youth Action Union (KAPPI) and Indonesian Student Action Union (KAMI) such as Mansyur Amin, Nurdin AR (former Pidie Regent), Let Bugeh and T. Syarief Alamuddin requested that Tjut Sofyan lend his radio equipment. Then came the radio Hanura (People’s Conscience Heart) which airs above the deck of the former kingpin Baperki who has taken the masses, began to accuse one by one PKI elements who are still entrenched in the local government and the security forces. Finally, after a few weeks, the dark radio began broadcasting people and sympathizers in the security service and the security apparatus, even though the activists were being chased by the security apparatus.

From some informants, it can be seen that the executors of the PKI activists, their mass organizations, and those “considered” PKI among them are known from the “thugs” like in Banda Aceh known Rami Plang and Mr. Saleh. But in its development both executor is finally “removed” also by OTK (unknown person). The famous execution place around Banda Aceh at that time was Mon Bengal in Indrapuri area and Ie Seum area of Krueng Raya. For the area in Meulaboh (Capital of West Aceh Regency) a place well known as the execution site is Rantau Kepala Gajah, Kuala Trang.

The purge of PKI activists was not limited to Banda Aceh alone, but also elsewhere in Aceh. In Pidie District, as in other parts of Aceh, the population moves massively. They consist of political parties, ordinary people, youth students while the security apparatus controls just so as not to happen things that do not violate the law. The spontaneous movement of the Pidie community took place on 6 October 1965 after it was determined that the PKI was behind G 30 S. At that time, spearheaded the NU, PNI, PSII party with youth and students and the community, thousands of people gathered at the Grand Mosque of Sigli. From there it was the first time that the mass of the mob was moving to destroy the PKI headquarters in Kuala Pidie and Baperki’s office in the city of Sigli. The houses that were known to belong to the PKI in some places were ransacked by the masses so that they were destroyed.

In some other areas of Aceh, the cleansing movement of PKI activists also took place. In Meulaboh (West Aceh) the PKI office was ransacked by a mob of rampaging youth and many activists were executed. This PKI activist execution event is not a secret anymore if it happens in Aceh. Similar things happen in Southeast Aceh, Central Aceh, South Aceh, and East Aceh. In December 1965 Aceh was declared free from the influence of Communism.
